What to do if your speaker stops working on your Macbook?

wallpapers News 2021-06-30
If sound stops working on your Mac, follow these steps to help you get your Mac speakers working again.
If you press the volume controls (usually F11 and F12), the volume controls appear grayed out, or if there is a red light next to the headphone jack, here's what you should do.
Here's what to do if your speaker stops working on your Macbook.
Play something
First, check to see if your Mac has absolutely no sound by playing something in iTunes or Music (in Katrina's case, music has replaced iTunes). Open iTunes/ Music click on songs and select any track in your music collection. When you press the play button, you will see the progress of the music bar even if you can't hear the music.
Turn up volume
Make sure the volume is not turned down - press the volume up button, usually F12 on the top right of the keyboard. When you click this, an overlay should appear on your screen. If that doesn't work, try clicking the volume option in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Check for a different app
It may be playing in iTunes or music, but not in Safari, which may be because the sound is off in Safari. If you're watching a video in Safari and there's no sound, you'll find the sound control in the video window, so you should be able to adjust it from there. The video may be muted by default, requiring you to choose to listen to the sound.
Turn it off and back on
Sometimes the process of restarting the Mac can solve this non work mac speaker problem.
Looking for headphones
Check your headphone jack to make sure no headphones are connected to your Mac. If you unplug your headphones, you should be able to hear the sound playing from the mac speakers.
Check your ports
Disconnect from anything on your Mac - not just from the audio port, since Thunderbolt, HDMI, and USB devices may be audio channels. If there is only one cable plugged into one of the ports, unplug it as well.
Check the headphone jack for debris (a red light may appear on some models): There may be something blocking the jack, a bit of fluff or dust. If the port is blocked, the Mac may behave as if headphones were plugged in. Try blowing into the porthole and see if you can get it out. Then plug in your headphones and hold down one of the volume buttons at the same time to see if the problem is resolved.
Update your software
Check that the latest version of the MacOS you are running is available for your Mac.
Restart the sound controller
Open the Activity Monitor and find 'CoreAudiod' in the process list, select it and click X to exit the process. The process will be restarted immediately, which may resolve your problem.
Check system Settings
Open System Settings and click Sound. Click the Output TAB, and then click Internal Speakers. Check that the Mute next to Output Volume is Mute (there should be no check mark in the check box). Make sure the Output Volume slider moves to the right.

No internal mac speakers? If you see Digital Out Speakers instead of Internal Mac Speakers in the window, disconnect anything plugged into your Mac (as described above). If the "Internal Speaker" option is still not listed in the Output window, you will need to contact Apple Technical Support for assistance.
Update your software
Check that you are running the latest version of MacOS. Here's how to update MacOS.
Reset the PRAM
This process can fix some sound-related problems. Restart your Mac while holding down the Command, Option (Oralt), P, and R keys. Hold them until the computer boots up and tells the time.
If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need to get your Mac to service, as this could be a sign of a hardware failure.
